What's On My Mindgrapes #17
People keep asking me “how is sabbatical going?” I’m unsure how to answer because I’m unsure of how it was supposed to go. I know one thing for sure: I’m frequently unsure which day it is. I have spent a lot of time entering stories and deconstructing story-telling structure. I dedicated this year to rebuilding my preaching from the ground up and storytelling is at the heart of my preaching. A friend asked, “Why are you doing that?” All I can say is that there’s some element of Tiger Woods in me that wants to keep refining my craft and making it better. Plus, I was starting to get bored with myself.
This next week I head off to spend a week and a half in Southern California. I’ve been looking forward to this for quite a while. This, hopefully, will be peak sabbatical.

My stressors are not what I thought they were.
If someone were to take my dog, I would miss her…for about a day.
I like having endless time to exercise.
I genuinely like sermon writing and preaching, but could live without them.
Being off social media let’s you feel better about yourself and life.
I’m still terrible at journaling.
There is an episode of NCIS on 24/7.
