Since the release of Speaking By the Numbers (my 3rd trade book), more and more people are asking me about the writing, publishing, and what it takes to become a writer. I cannot answer every inquiry, but I would love to. That being the case, I’m taking some time over the next week to answer your question about being and becoming a writer.
“But I don’t want to be a writer,” some of you are saying. I respond with, “That’s not as true as you might think.” Why? Because most of us have to communicate, in writing, with clarity and conviction. It may be a proposal at work, or a letter to an old friend, perhaps it’s an important email, or your son, daughter, or grandchildren gave you a Storyworth account. Writing matters. And we are all writers.
So…knowing that, what are your questions about writing? Do you have friends who are aspiring writers? What are their questions?
Go.
Question 1: When you get an idea for a book, what’s your general process? Write an outline? Summary? Just start turning out pages?
Question 2: Any recommendations for writing practices (when not creating content)?
