A friend recently shared with our family that she struggled to keep her kids “entertained.” I found that curious, since Richard and Gloria Palmer never gave two craps if I or my brother was entertained. When we complained about boredom, we were assigned chores, so we stopped complaining. Mind you, this was before on-demand TV streaming, the ubiquity of video games, tablets, streaming music and all the other tools modern kids have.
In response to our friend’s struggle, my youngest daughter said, “We just had books.”
