Adnan Syed might be a murderer. Then again, her might not. I don’t know…and neither do you.

Adnan, and his conviction for killing his ex-girlfriend, Hae Min Lee, was the center of what was, 8-years ago, appointment podcast listening. Me, my wife, and friends, couldn’t get enough of this dazzling story brought to us by Sarah Koenig and the Serial podcast.

Frankly, it all seemed like a great miscarriage of justice. A young, Muslim boy railroaded by cops more interested in making a case stick than they were interested in finding the truth; a prosecutor out to make a name for himself, untrustworthy witness turning state’s evidence in exchange for leniency for this and other crimes they’d committed, a disinterested, tired defense attorney, weird cell phone tower triangulations, a tight timeline between Adnan’s track practice and the murder, and a couple other plausible suspects who weren’t vetted or investigated. Adnan’s innocence was an easy case to make.
