38% of pastors in the United States have thought about quitting full-time ministry in the past year, according to The Barna Group. The isolation of the COVID-19 pandemic has heightened the distress and tension pastors and church leaders have felt around the inherently depleting nature of ministry, the harsh and increasingly partisan American political culture, and the ever present criticism church leaders endure. All of that — and so much more — has revealed pastors as, well, worn out and weary.
Called
Yet, these women and men have felt and are called to a particular role in society, culture, and the church. Perhaps you feel that bite and bitterness too. Maybe your pastoral staff have reached a point where they are teetering between staying or going. If you don’t know, please ask them.
If you or they are discerning your future role in ministry, our friends at Missio Alliance have put together a retreat (Why Stay) to help restore the souls - but space is limited.
I’m honored to join my friends, Tara Beth Leach, Tonya Variya, and Dan White Jr. at The Kineo Center outside of San Juan, Puerto Rico for soul work around pain, examen, and restoration, and we want you and/or your pastor to join us. Trust me. It will be worth it.
