Midnight Mass: Universal Hope

Horror movies are not fun. I don’t watch (or like) many of them. As a teenager, I enjoyed the campiness of Friday the 13th and as a young adult watched Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer, but not much more than that. Recently, Get Out has had it’s appeal, but I’ve not been invested in anything as much as I have Midnight Mass.

But is Midnight Mass really a horror show?

When people have asked me, I have told them that it is, but there are no jump scares, and it’s not made up of the kind of thing that will keep you awake a night. Whenever there are vampires and blood, I guess, that qualifies as horror, but Midnight Mass isn’t quite horror, at least to me.
