A Rant: chatGPT Worship Is Coming
Share

I asked chatGPT to write a sermon on The Lord’s Prayer, part of which I preached at Otter Creek Church. Here’s what chatGPT came up with.

Dear brothers and sisters,

Let us today reflect on the Lord's Prayer, a prayer given to us by Jesus himself as a guide for our daily communication with God.

[SCREEN] "Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil." -Matthew 6:9-13

This prayer can be divided into several parts, each addressing a specific aspect of our relationship with God.

First, by addressing God as "Our Father in heaven," we acknowledge that He is our loving and compassionate Creator, who has a divine plan for each of us.

Second, "Hallowed be your name" reminds us to respect and honor God's holy name, and to strive to live in a way that brings glory to it.

Third, "Your kingdom come, your will be done" expresses our desire for God's reign and purpose to be established in our lives, and in the world around us.

Fourth, "Give us this day our daily bread" reminds us to trust in God's provision for our physical and spiritual needs, and to ask for what we need each day.

Fifth, "Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors" acknowledges our own wrongdoing and asks for God's forgiveness, and also calls us to extend forgiveness to others, as we have been forgiven by Him.

Finally, "Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil" recognizes our vulnerability to sin and temptation, and asks for God's protection and guidance in facing these challenges.

In conclusion, the Lord's Prayer is a beautiful expression of our dependence on God, and a reminder of the many ways in which He desires to bless and guide us. Let us make this prayer a regular part of our communication with Him, and trust in His love and care for us each day.

In the message, I highlighted the reality that, though chatGPT offered true words about The Lord's Prayer, this is not a sermon anyone wants to hear. It boring, lifeless, and lacks animation. But the words are true.
